Oraciones Condicionales
A) Primer Condicional (First Conditional)
Utilizamos el Primer Condicional en los siguientes casos:
1. Para expresar situaciones que pueden ocurrir en el presente o en el futuro.
E.g. a) If we pass all our exams, we will (we’ll) go out and celebrate.
(Si pasamos todos los exámenes, saldremos y celebraremos)
b) If they win the lottery, they´ll buy a house.
(Si ellos ganan la lotería, ellos comprarán una casa)
2. Pada dar consejos o una advertencia.
E.g. If you arrive late one more time, you´ll be in serious trouble.
(Si tú llegas tarde una vez más, tú estarás en serios problemas)
Para formar el segundo condicional debemos utilizar la siguiente estructura gramatical.
a) If + Present Simple, will / can + forma básica del verbo
b) Will / can + forma básica del verbo + if + Presente Simple
If al principio de la oración

| If you fail the exam, Si no apruebas el examen, | you can do it again. Usted puede hacerlo de Nuevo. |
If en el medio de la oración.

| You can do it again. Usted puede hacerlo de Nuevo | if you fail the exam. sí no apruebas el examen. |
Otros ejemplos.
a) If we go by bus, it will be cheaper (Sí vamos en autobus, será más barato)
b) If the phone rings, can you answer it, please? (Sí el teléfono suena, puedes contestarlo, por favor?
c) It will be cheaper if we go buy bus (será más barato sí vamos en autobus).
También podemos utilizar la forma negativa del presente simple como se muestra a continuación.
Ejemplos:
a) If you don’t hurry, you´ll miss the train (Si no té apuras, perderás el tren).
b) Don´t wait for me if I´m late this evening (No esperes por mi sí llego tarde esta noche).
B) Segundo Condicional (Second Conditional)
Utilizamos el Segundo Condicional para hablar acerca de situaciones en el presente o en el futuro que no son reales o que son improbables, hipotéticas o imaginarias.
Para formar el segundo condicional debemos utilizar la siguiente estructura gramatical.
a) If + Past Simple, would / could / might + forma básica del verbo
b) Would / could / might + forma básica del verbo + if + Past Simple
Ejemplos:
a). If I knew his number, I would call her (Sí yo conociera su número, yo la llamaría)
b). If she lived in Europe, she might speak several languages (Sí Ella viviera en Europa, ella podría hablar varios idiomas)
Cuando utilizamos el segundo condicional se debe utilizar la forma del verbo to be en pasado “were” para todos los pronombres personales.
Ejemplos:
a) If I were rich, I would buy a castles (Sí yo fuera rico, compraría un Castillo).
b) If she were rich, she would buy a castles (Sí ella fuera rica, ella compraría un Castillo)
had es el pasado del verbo have, sin embargo cuando lo utilizamos para formar el segundo condicional se traduce como “tuviera”.

Ejemplo: If I had enough money, I would buy a car (sí yo tuviera suficiente dinero, yo compraría un carro).
Were se traduce como “fuera /fuéramos / fueran” cuando formamos segundo condicional.

Ejemplo: If you were in my position, what would you do? = ¿Sí usted tuviera en mi posición, que haría?
